Acoustical Ceiling Systems:

The acoustic performance of suspended ceilings has improved dramatically over the years, with enhanced sound absorption and sound attenuation.  This is achieved by adding insulation known as Sound Attenuation Batts, more commonly referred to as "Sound Batts" above the panels to help deaden sounds and keep adjacent rooms quieter.

Probably no wall and ceiling system has undergone as many changes and advancements as acoustical ceiling products.  The traditional white grid and lay-in textured panels is merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to acoustical ceilings. Some recent developments include:

Ceilings for high humidity and corrosive environments.

Sculpted ceilings

Ceiling clouds

Transparent ceilings A variety of open grid patterns

Classic wood & plaster coffered ceilings

Clean room ceilings for the computer industry.

Linear hi-tech metal panels

Curved ceilings that inspire imagination

Systems that provide a fire-rating.

If fire safety is a factor, ceiling tiles made from mineral fibers can be used within the construction to meet acceptable standards/ratings. They also can provide the needed additional resistance to meet the "Time Rating" required for various fire code, city ordinance, commercial, or similar building construction regulations.

The three types of rating used to indicate the ability of the ceiling panels are:

NCR - Noise Reduction - Measures the amount of noise a panel can absorb.

CAC - Ceiling Attenuation Class  - Measures the amount of sound passing through a panel

AC-Articulation Class  - Measures the sound reflected from the ceiling to adjacent workspace

The installation of an acoustical ceiling is not recommended for beginners, as they require accurate planning and layout.  There is little room for error.  You must proceed slowly and methodically, keeping the grid work level while installing the suspension ceiling grid.
